A Political Advertising year: what does it mean for you?
I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention that political ad spending is likely to make this year quite dynamic. Traditionally affecting local broadcast and cable, it has extended into streaming OTT and digital media, particularly in hotly contested Michigan and West Michigan.
While the election is in early November, it's common for advertisers to avoid the political chaos and high rates leading up to the election, opting to place ads right after. However, this creates a surge in post election pent up demand and inventory issues in the weeks after the election, coinciding with the busy Thanksgiving/Black Friday and Christmas season.
Electronic streaming avails, especially targeting Adults 25-54, often sell out or become more expensive rapidly. This can also impact other platforms like OOH, radio, and electronic ad platforms. To secure availability and avoid higher rates, starting the planning process earlier this year and considering placing ads earlier than last year might be wise.
Potentially these factors could have a significant impact on the efficiencies of your media placements especially if you wait too long.
